PrintHouse honors Holocaust hero
Congress honored a Briton who saved hundreds of Jewish children during the Holocaust.
The non-binding resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives honoring Sir Nicholas Winton, now 93, passed Monday evening in a voice vote. It was initiated by Rep. Ron Klein (D-Fla.), a freshman congressman who has set raising consciousness of the Holocaust as a top priority.
Winton raised funds and arranged transportation to Britain for 600 Jewish children in Czechoslovakia.
“These children grew up to be doctors, nurses, teachers, musicians, artists, writers, pilots, ministers, scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and a member of the British Parliament, and today they and their children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren number over 5,000 living in the United States, Canada, Australia, the Czech Republic, Britain, Germany and elsewhere,” Klein said in speaking to the resolution on the House floor.
