PrintEmerging’ communities receive microgrants
Seven “emerging” Jewish communities will receive innovation microgrants from Synagogue 3000. The Los Angeles-based group encourages spiritual innovation and creative leadership.
The grant recipients are rabbis and spiritual communities in North America and Israel that exist outside the denominational structure of organized Jewish life. They all participate in Synagogue 3000’s Jewish Emergent Initiative, a multi-year program of workshops focusing on up-and-coming Jewish spiritual leaders.
Recipients include Rabbi Jamie Korngold, the so-called “Adventure Rabbi” who leads Torah treks from her base in Boulder, Colo.; the Kavana Cooperative in Seattle, which is launching a social justice initiative and expanding its ritual programming; Kol Tzedek in Philadephia, enabling it to offer CDs and music downloads and improve Shabbat programming; and Yotzer Or, a prayer community in Jerusalem’s Talpiot neighborhood.
The microgrants, provided by the Nathan Cummings Foundation, will be used for various items, from building software to general operating funds.
