Prince Edward visits Israel
Britain’s Prince Edward began a four-day tour of Israel on Wednesday.
This first visit to Israel by a member of the British royal family in more than 10 years was prompted by an invitation to the 43-year-old Earl of Wessex by the Israel Youth Award program, which was started some 50 years ago by Edward’s father, Prince Phillip.
On Friday Edward will visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem, where a tree was planted in honor of his grandmother, Princess Alice. She was recognized in 1993 as a gentile from the Righteous Among the Nations for sheltering three members of the Cohen family in her home in Athens during the Holocaust.
