Israel extended invitation to join OECD
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development extended an invitation to Israel to join. The OECD extended the invitation Wednesday after years of lobbying by the U.S. government and Congress and more recently, by Turkey. The group has never rejected a country invited to negotiate membership. Membership in the OECD, promoting good governance and cooperative free markets, facilitates trade with the world’s most advanced economies. Australia, the United States and Britain are among the 30 countries affiliated with OECD. Israel will have to pass legislative adjustments to comply with OECD standards if it is to become a member, including passing laws against paying bribes in foreign lands.
