(JTA) — The European Union is considering imposing sanctions on Israel for continued settlement building, according to a leaked document.
An internal document published Monday in Haaretz discussed the possibility of recalling European diplomats from Israel and cutting ties with Israeli leaders, including senior Cabinet members, who openly oppose a two-state solution.
The document also looks at reassessing the EU’s commitment not to participate in anti-Israel sessions at the United Nations Human Rights Council and taking actions to support the Palestinians’ statehood bid.
According to the Times of Israel, the document does not state official policy and is merely meant as a basis for future discussions.
In a news conference Monday, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said the document is a “hypothetical working paper.”
