JERUSALEM (JTA) — Graffiti was spray-painted on the wall of a mosque and three cars were set on fire in an Arab village in Israel.
The graffiti painted Tuesday on the mosque in the Umm al-Qutud village in the Wadi Ara region of northern Israel read “price tag” and “Eviatar,” Ynet reported. A Star of David also was spray-painted on the wall.
Eviatar likely refers to Eviatar Borovsky, a father of five from the West Bank settlement of Yitzhar who was killed by a Palestinian assailant while waiting for a bus at the Tapuach Junction in the West Bank late last month.
“Price tag” refers to the strategy that extremist settlers and their supporters have adopted to exact retribution for settlement freezes and demolitions or Palestinian attacks on Jews.
Also on Tuesday, racist graffiti including the words “Arabs out” was spray-painted in the northern Israeli city of Safed.
Police are investigating both incidents.
