Prague-born painter Adolf Kantor, known for his sketches from Auschwitz, died at 79 in Maine. During his imprisonment, Kantor produced hundreds of sketches and drawings, but he later destroyed them out of fear they would be found by camp guards. After the war, he reproduced the majority of them from memory.
