Funeral aervices were held here today for Joseph M. Levy, former New York Times correspondent in the Middle East, who was active after his retirement as a correspondent in aiding Jews living on Arab countries. He died yesterday at the age of 64.

Mr. Levy, who knew Hebrew, Arabic and six other languages, was born in Brunswick, N.J., and taken to Jerusalem as an infant. He attended the University of Beirut and served later as private and political secretary to Sir Ronald Storrs, Governor of Jerusalem under the British Mandate. He served the Times from 1928 to 1947, working out of Jerusalem and later from Cairo. After his retirement from the Times, he served as public relations counsel to the French Embassy and was honored as an officer of the French Legion of Honor.
