Pinie Katz, the noted Yiddish writer, died here at the age of 77. He was one of the founders of the Yiddish daily “Di Presse,” and was an editor of the paper for more than 30 years. Born in Russia, he emigrated to the Argentine in 1889. He was the author of “The History of Argentine-Jewish Journalism” and also translated into Yiddish, Cervantes’ “Don Quixote” and several famous Argentine works.
Mr. Katz has greatly contributed to the Jewish cultural development of Argentine Jewry, especially in the years after the first World War. He was considered a left winger, but in his early years in Argentina he was a member of the Poale Zion.
