The Israeli Supreme Court in Jerusalem today acquitted Frederick Sylvester, a British subject, who was sentenced by a District Court to seven years’ imprisonment on charges of espionage. Immediately after the announcement of the acquittal, Sylvester left for Haifa from where he intends to fly to London as soon as possible.
Investigation of the cases against Nathan Friedman-Yellin, leader of the Stern Group, and M. Shimulevitz, his aide, were completed today by Dr. Hoter Istaly, chief military prosecutor, and formal charges were drafted. The trial is scheduled to take place on Nov. 28, probably in Haifa.
Of some 300 members of the Stern Group who have been arrested by Israeli authorities about a half have already been released, it was reported here today.
