Jewish organizations, suspecting that the announcement of the death of former Col. Constantin Chirelovict, one of the major criminals responsible for Jassy massacre in 1941, may be a hoax, have launched an investigation, it was learned here today. They believe that the corpse of another man was substituted for the former police official.
Chirelovici’s death was announced simultaneously with a decision of an army court martial to retry him for his part in the pogrom in which some 14,000 Jews died. He was chief of police in Jassy during the mass murders.
