Private Funeral Rites for Adler Today; ‘grand Old Man’ of U.S. Jewry Dead at 76

Private funeral services, limited to relatives and intimate associates, will be held at noon tomorrow for Dr. Cyrus Adler, who died at his home at 10:30 o’clock last night at the age of 76 after an illness of several weeks. Rabbi Abraham Neumann of Congregation Mikveh Israel, Dr. Adler’s synagogue, will officiate.

The death of Dr. Adler, scholar and leader of a host of Jewish organizations, called forth statements of tribute from many public officials, including Secretary of State Cordell Hull, Mayor LaGuardia of New York and Philadelphia officials, as well as Jewish leaders and organizations.

At Dr. Adler’s bedside when he died were his wife, Racie Friedenwald Adler; his daughter, Mrs. Sarah Adler Wolfinsohn of Cambridge, Mass., and Mrs, Adler’s sister, Mrs. Henry I. Hamburger of Baltimore. No other members of his immediate family survive.
