THEODORE A. PEYSER, REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS FROM THE “SILK STOCKING” SEVENTEENTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT IN NEW YORK CITY, DIED SUNDAY MORNING IN HIS APARTMENT AT THE HOTEL WARWICH HERE. HE WAS 64. MR. PEYSER HAD BEEN IN ILL HEALTH SINCE FEBRUARY. DEATH WAS DUE TO CORONARY THROMBOSIS. FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD TODAY AT TEMPLE EMANU-EL.
ONE OF THE TEN JEWISH MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, MR. PEYSER ENTERED POLITICS IN 1932 WHEN HE DEFEATED THE REPUBLICAN INCUMBENT, MRS. RUTH BAKER PRATT, IN A NORMALLY REPUBLICAN DISTRICT. HE WAS ACTIVE IN THE FEDERATION FOR THE SUPPORT OF JEWISH PHILANTHROPIC SOCIETIES.
