Appointment of Sir John Hope Simpson to membership in the new Newfoundland government has set at rest rumors that he would be appointed High Commissioner of Danzig. Great anxiety had been aroused in the Jewish population of Danzig by rumors of the appointment, in view of his obvious anti-Jewish attitude.
Sir John, a British civil servant, was appointed by the British government to make a survey of immigration and colonization possibilities in Palestine. When the report was issued it was found to deny completely the existence of possibilities for Jewish settlement and colonization. The entire tenor of the report was so obviously anti-Jewish that the Jewish Agency for Palestine refused to accept the findings.
