Israel Belkind, Russian Zionist leader and one of the early pioneers in Palestine, died here today in the hospital of the Jewish community. He was 69 years old.
The late Mr. Belkind was one of the founders of the Bilu group, the group of Russian Zionist student pioneers who settled in Palestine following the Russian pogroms of 1881. He was active in many Zionist enterprises, including the establishment of a colony for the orphans of the pogrom victims, wrote and spoke in many countries, propagating Zionism and the upbuilding of Palestine. His body will be taken to Palestine for burial.
